U.S. Orders Now Need 10 Business Days in Transit. Here Is the Math.

The short version. U.S. tariff rules changed, every parcel crossing the border is now formally cleared, and clearance time is not something a supplier can buy back. From today, please plan a minimum of 10 business days of transit on any Yorkn order delivering to a U.S. address, and please sign our Order and Shipment Agreement before we start production.

What is different at the border in 2026

Until last year the great majority of promotional shipments entering the United States moved under the low-value de minimis rule. They were released on arrival with little more than a manifest. That rule was suspended for imports from every country in August 2025. A parcel that used to clear in hours is now a formal entry with a duty calculation, a broker and a place in the queue at the port. Most days the queue is short. On the days it is not, there is nothing we, the carrier or you can do to move a box up the line.

Because Yorkn quotes landed prices, the money side of this is already handled: freight and duties to one U.S. location are inside the price on your quote. What we cannot fold into a price is time. This article is about the time.

Counting the ten days

The window is transit: it starts when the carrier scans the parcel out of our facility and it is measured in business days, so weekends and holidays on either side of the border do not count. Production and proof approval come before it. Here is how a typical made-to-order item lays out.

To find your latest safe order date, start from the event, subtract 10 business days, subtract the production time on the quote, and subtract a day for proofing. If that date has already passed, tell us before you order rather than after, because there are usually choices we can still make: a stocked alternative, a different decoration method, or air freight on a heavier run.

Where our responsibility ends

We choose the carrier, we prepare the commercial invoice with values, HS codes and country of origin, and we watch the tracking on every U.S. shipment. Once a parcel is scanned out of our facility, though, its progress belongs to the carrier and to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Yorkn cannot be held responsible for delays caused by couriers or customs, as these processes are beyond our control. We are saying it plainly here so that no one builds an event date on a promise we are not in a position to make.

For every order with a U.S. delivery address we now ask the buyer to read four short points and sign. It is a typed signature on a single page, and it takes under a minute. Once we have it, production begins and you can expect to hear from us shortly with updates.

What to tell your client

Clients rarely object to a date that is explained up front. They object to a date that moves.

Three habits that keep U.S. orders on time

1. Put the in-hands date on the purchase order. Our team checks it against production plus ten business days the moment the order lands, and flags a problem while there is still time to fix it.
2. Approve proofs the day they arrive. A proof that waits three days costs three days at the end, where they hurt.
3. Give us a full delivery address with a phone number. A missing suite number or an unreachable receiver is still the most common reason a carrier holds a parcel after it has cleared.
